Sound guide & voice settings

Sound spellings are approximate. CAPITALS mark emphasis. “th” means the sound in thin; “dh” the sound in this. English uses an American model; Spanish uses Spain’s “th” for c/z (many speakers use “s”). Italian vowels stay clear; hold doubled consonants a little longer. Listen, then imitate.

Audio uses voices available in your browser or device; some require internet. Progress stays in this browser when storage is available.

Number patterns to notice

English: compare thirTEEN and THIRty. Written compounds use a hyphen: twenty-one.

Spanish: 16–29 are joined words; from 31 use “y”: treinta y uno. 100 alone is cien. Before nouns, uno can change to un or una.

Italian: tens lose their last vowel before uno and otto: ventuno, ventotto. Joined numbers ending in tre carry an accent: ventitré. 100 is cento.

These cards teach standalone counting forms. Quantities with nouns, prices, dates and larger numbers can form the next series.
